The world often feels dark when seen through today’s headlines. Conflict, division, mistrust, and crisis compete for attention.1 However, working and training in infectious diseases offers a different daily perspective. Infection does not recognise age, gender, ethnicity, religion, borders, politics, or culture; it can affect any person and any organ system. Because of this, infectious diseases practice is, by necessity, collaborative and boundary-crossing.
