This August issue marks the 25th anniversary of The Lancet Infectious Diseases. The journal was created in 2001 by our late Editor-in-Chief John McConnell whose vision for a journal for specialists in infectious diseases that could inform public health decisions and clinical practice is alive to this day. John’s curiosity and conviction that an infectious cause could always be found at the root of most medical problems shaped the growth of the journal from an initial collection of reviews to the multifaceted publication it is now.
