Calley Means, an entrepreneur and top adviser to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has resigned. He said today on X that he steps down with “tremendous respect” for both President Donald Trump and Kennedy for “combatting the entrenched, dark forces in DC that profit from Americans getting sick.”

“More policy and cultural change has happened around these goals in the past 2 years than any time in history – and I know this movement is just getting started,” Means added. “It was an honor to advocate for MAHA [Make America Healthy Again] moms in the administration and steer policies like Dietary Guidelines reform, psychedelic reform, removing soda from SNAP [Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program], removing food dyes, GRAS [generally recognized as safe, a food designation] reform, and overhauling government food procurement.”

Means has shown little interest in Kennedy’s efforts to challenge various vaccine recommendations, finding the topic to be polarizing, the New York Times reported today.

Trump’s support of glyphosate may have played a role

Sources told Politico that Means grew frustrated this week when a meeting between Kennedy and White House officials to discuss defining ultraprocessed foods was postponed. Food policy has been a cornerstone of the MAHA agenda, and though the administration suggested an official definition was coming this past summer, no progress on the topic has been made.

Other sources said Means was upset about Trump administration moves to increase the supply of the herbicide glyphosate, used in Roundup.

Means is the brother of Casey Means, MD, who was Trump’s pick for surgeon general. Trump pulled her nomination this past spring and instead backed Nicole Saphier, MD, after Means failed to get bipartisan support during a contentious Senate hearing, during which she was challenged on her views on vaccines and lack of clinical experience.
